The Capitol Inn is a Competitive-Rate Hotel

image: Capitol Inn: Picture from North Goldthwaite Street Montgomery ALOriginally built as the Albert Pick Hotel in 1952, the Capitol Inn held a commanding position in Montgomery for many years. Due to its close proximity to the Capitol, the hotel’s Four Seasons Restaurant was unparalleled for years as a favored dining spot for politicians and lawmakers. Society also favored the hotel with bridal luncheons, wedding receptions, and countless festive gatherings over the years.

In more recent years, the hotel lost the polish that it had once enjoyed. The downtown area, as in so many other cities, had begun to decline. After its purchase by the Lane Group in 2003, and subsequent refurbishing, the hotel once again is sparkling! The historic downtown area is enjoying a renaissance as restoration and rebirth explode around us.

The new Riverwalk Stadium is only a few blocks from us… historic Union Station a stone’s throw…the recently restored Capitol a short 12-block walk. Surrounding the hotel is an area known as Cottage Hill, a journey back into early Montgomery’s first suburban neighborhood, with restored homes that give you a sense of life from the mid 1800s to the early 1910s. Visit the nearby home of Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina, where he lived as President of the Confederacy as well as the Civil Rights Memorial designed by Maya Lin, who also designed the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC.

One of Montgomery’s true treasures, Old Alabama Town, is only a few blocks to the east. An incredible experience of life in the early 1800s, Old Alabama Town features a two-block area with homes, businesses and a church from the period. Tours are offered here daily!

The Montgomery Civic Center is currently under renovation and is only a block away. Gaze from the balcony at the Alabama River, the original interstate way to travel! Tour the Rosa Parks Museum, part of Troy University’s Montgomery campus, and only six blocks away. The historic Dexter Avenue Baptist Church where Martin Luther King was pastor is in the shadow of the Capitol. You can easily reach most of the places mentioned by a short walk or a five-minute automobile ride.
